School Workshops

SCHOOL WORKSHOPS FOR YEARS 1-6

Easily digestible sessions that give an introduction to creating characters. These workshops will be fun, experimental and tailored to the age and ability of your students. Our primary school workshops will equip students with a basic understanding of what makes interesting Drama.

SCHOOL WORKSHOPS FOR YEARS 7-9

Building on character development and utilising physical storytelling. We work using exercises in status & relationships, using classic archetypes to make this easy. Various master/servant scenarios will teach how to find comedy in misunderstandings and conflicts. Students will be taught the basic hierarchal structure of Commedia dell'Arte as well as an introduction to mask work.

GCSE WORKSHOPS

We will work in accordance with the AO's of your chosen exam board. We will cover the entire Commedia dell'Arte family and their hierarchal structure. Sessions in creating scenarios and Lazzi's will aid students in improving their devising skills and stage craft. Mask work and physical storytelling will help students with  giving detailed description and analysis of actors' performances.

A LEVEL WORKSHOPS

At this level we will tailor our workshop to the needs of your A Level class. We can equip your students with Commedia tools that will be extremely useful in approaching their devised piece. Equally, for scripted pieces we recommend a Commedia workshop to aid character development and movement within a piece. This process is always an interesting and worthy talking point in the written assessment.

"A practical understanding of Commedia should lie at the heart of any performer's technique and will unlock their approach to any  theatrical style (... it's all a matter of scale).  Inspired and enthused by the hugely accessible techniques of Commedia dell’Arte, our students were creating theatre that was both gripping and hilarious in a matter of moments.  I cannot recommend Commedia works highly enough."

"Elliott engaged students with his vast, expert knowledge of Commedia through a meticulously structured, highly practical and hugely fun workshop enabling them to not only learn the discipline and techniques of Commedia but also to apply this to all sorts of other areas of text and performance. Genuinely inspiring and illuminating. Should be compulsory for all Drama students from Year 9 through to A Level!"

"Thank you for the engaging and inspirational workshop you delivered. As I watched I could see the children’s understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of performance grow. The students haven’t stopped talking about it!"

Karen Binks

"Elliott is a committed and driven drama tutor. He was a wonderful teacher who treated his students with warmth and many of us wish to emulate his positive energy and caring nature going forward. The notion of work was transformed into fun and he made the devising process both lively and effortless. His broad theatrical knowledge could be applied to A-Level stage design and directing essays. Thanks so much for everything."
